Sam and Cheri have pastored Destiny Christian Center in Puyallup, Washington since January 1991. At that time, the ministry was almost five million dollars in debt. Today, Destiny Christian Center is in the process of locating to a brand new campus.

The Bensons believe in "Family Destiny." They are committed to the fulfillment of the purpose God has for their family. Sam and Cheri have been married for 35 years and have two sons, Nate and Matt. Pastor Nate and his wife Kimberlie lead the Destiny Worship ministry, and Pastor Matt and his wife Tina lead Youth World and High Definition Kids. Working together in ministry is an important aspect of family life.

Connecting People with Purpose is the theme of their teaching and vision. Sam and Cheri are dedicated to the empowerment of each individual believer and the destiny of the body of Christ.

Cheri, a gifted teacher of God's Word, frequently speaks at conferences, seminars and church events.

Sam uses inspired preaching of the Word of God to stir the hearts of his listeners to purpose-filled action. Both are ordained ministers of the gospel with outstanding track records of effective service.

On January 21, 2002 at Georgetown University in Washington D.C., Pastor Sam was awarded the Ecclesiastical Degree of Doctor of Divinity (DD). This degree was conferred by the Mid-Atlantic Conference of the Methodist-Episcopal Church and the National Clergy Council. This degree is awarded for demonstrating extraordinary scholarship, preaching and institutional leadership.
